MDS Trends ’25: Typography in Graphic Design
Pushing beyond the boundaries of sans serif, companies are finding new and creative ways to add personality to their brandmark.
As we venture further into 2025, we have accumulated our findings and personal predictions for typography in Graphic Design that will set the precedent for trends throughout the rest of the year.
CHUNKY & HANDCRAFTED
Relating back to the desire for human touch, these fonts have a certain warmth to them that makes them feel homey and cordial, shining bright amongst an increasingly standardized digital landscape. The distinctive charm of these typefaces make them particularly effective in brand logos and web design, conveying a look that feels as authentic as it is unique.
As these display fonts wiggle their way to the top, we'll watch as they venture into a more expansive range of product design and hide in new corners of the digital world.
MODERN MONO
With the comeback of retro design, particularly the fusion of modern retro and Y2K, there has been a rise in popularity of monospace fonts. These typefaces are well-suited in minimalist design principles, offering easy legibility and making them perfect for brands who prioritizing functionality and simplicity.
Monospace fonts are clean and most often tech-centric, making them highly distinguishable against many traditional font families. Be ready to observe a high-volume spread of monospace over the next year, specifically in product packaging and web.
LIVING IN A FANTASY WORLD
Branching out from big and bold display fonts, there has been an uptick in fonts with themes of rustic western, moody academia, and medieval fantasy neo-serifs. Going beyond the usual nostalgia and diving into something much more niche, these fonts are growing in popularity for their sense of escapism with historical inspiration.
Y2K isn't going anywhere quite yet, but anticipate a gradual shift towards these typefaces as we lean into an era of more playful, whimsical design. 2025 is the year of modern Renaissance!
