MDS Trends ’25: Color in Graphic Design

When it comes to color in design, a bright accent or two is to be expected. But what happens when that train reaches capacity and brands begin looking for ways to push their palettes even further?

As we venture further into 2025, we have accumulated our findings and personal predictions for color in Graphic Design that will set the precedent for trends throughout the rest of the year.

UNCONVENTIONALLY ATTRACTIVE

Who doesn't love some good ol' fashioned eye strain? We sure do! Pushing into this age of anti-branding, we are anticipating a rise in more unconventional color combos that break through the rulebook of standard design and spring into a world full of high contrast absurdity.

With undertones of Y2K and early 2000's technology, these palettes are most appealing to younger audiences looking for a pop of modern madness. Get ready to see more bursts of vivids and neons at a store near you!

GEN Z GREENS VS. MILLENNIAL PINKS

Last year, we saw the continuation of our prediction for candy-coated Millennial kitsch: a palette mixed with hot and vivid pastels that scream bold femininity, with the highlighted accents of salmon and baby pink. But who are we kidding—that's so last year!

As trends begin to sway, we are seeing a surge of greens—arguably jade/kelly green—across design in the world of digital and packaging. Whether it's an eccentric coffee brand or a product line of specialty hair care, there's no denying the desire for a palette that keeps the vibe and still reinvents itself into something more fresh and organic.

BOLD & UNAFRAID

A colorful yet neutral palette with a splash of bold accents has been a trend of the past few years, but where we're typically seeing it applied is evolving at a rapid rate. These bursting colorways have been a staple for brands who've already been in the game, showcased most often in product packaging and social marketing.

But as of recent, its influence is everywhere—health brands, pet care, household appliances, and everywhere in-between! Watch as these color palettes explode and breathe life into these categories as a multitude of fields continue to look for more ways to incorporate more individuality in their branding.
